The Bonsai Society-Kalamazoo (BS-K) is a nonprofit, educational
organization whose aim is to promote
knowledge, appreciation, enjoyment, and interest in the ancient Oriental arts
of Japanese bonsai and Chinese penjing.
It is affiliated with the American Bonsai Society (ABS), the
MidAmerican Bonsai Alliance (MABA), Bonsai Clubs International (BCI); and the
National Bonsai Foundation, Washington, D.C.
The BS-K usually, but not
always, meets the second Sunday of
each month (except August & December) from 2:00-5:00 pm at Kalamazoo Valley Community Collage.
Texas Township Campus 6767 W. “O” Ave. just south of I-94. Go in the main entrance
under the towers. Visitors are
always welcome.
Activities include: demonstrations, workshops, and beginners & advanced
classes; slide & video shows; guest lectures & round-table discussions;
regular show-n-tell sessions; auction of bonsai materials & plants; a
circulating club library; field trips; a monthly newsletter; and the
organization of public bonsai/penjing shows.
For example, in 1998, the BS-K hosted the national American Bonsai
Society's annual symposium at the Kalamazoo Radisson Plaza Hotel.
Membership in the BS-K is $15 per person; $20 per family; or $10 per student. Please consider joining and participating in
this unusual art form that helps promotes our appreciation of both nature and
beauty.
